Hello! My name is Rebecca and I am very grateful to have been a teacher at David’s English Center for over 8 years. Teaching is also a way of learning and I believe that one never stops learning; no matter where you are, what you do, or how old you are. Even though I am from a small town in Illinois, because of an air force base and a medical research university nearby; I had classmates from a wide variety of countries and cultures. Since my mother was a teacher’s assistant at my elementary school, it was always my job to be friends with the new students and make them feel comfortable at their new school. I am happy I can continue to do this for students at David’s. After University, I worked in Corporate Sales and Event Planning at a major hotel. This job gave me a background in business and customer relations. Teaching has always been my dream, though. I volunteered teaching English for many years before I went back to school for my teaching degree. I have worked with English as a Second Language students from many different linguistic and cultural backgrounds, and am grateful to have taught in the US, Mexico, Japan, Chile, and currently, Taiwan. Anywhere I go I always remind myself of the three H’s: Hungry: Have a hungry attitude towards learning and pass this on to students. Humble: To be willing to learn and change; one must stay humble. Helpful: Help students improve their English ability, but also give them the tools to help themselves. I also believe that students should take an active role in their learning and make a real connection with English. Therefore, many of my lessons are designed to increase Student Talk Time, keep students interested in learning, help students stay motivated and focused on their learning goals, and build their confidence in themselves and their English ability.
